Yuki Kimura’s practice uses precise stagings and subtle interventions in spatial perception to question both established ways of seeing and how objects are perceived. In her solo exhibition COL SPORCAR SI TROVA, held at the Kunstverein earlier this year, Kimura made repeated use of various specific found objects – such as glasses, abalones, and mirror balls – to create an immersive installation that subverted the prominent visual effect of the exhibition space and visitors’ perceptions of the sculptures on display. This impression was heightened by scaling the individual objects to different sizes, thus emphasizing particular sight lines and making certain distances seem greater or smaller depending on their position within the space.
For her edition for the Kunstverein, Yuki Kimura has produced a wall calendar. Titled Perfection, it brings together 12 images of drinking glasses produced by the manufacturer Baccarat, all taken from the websites of online retailers. Each month features a glass from the “Perfection” series, with only the sizes of the glasses varying.
