On the occasion of the closing of Yuki Kimura’s solo show, Düsseldorf and Tokyo based curator Mariko Mikami will give a salon talk. Taking the current exhibition COL SPORCAR SI TROVA as a starting point, the talk will revisit historical and recent exhibitions by artists from Japan at the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen since 1970 – among them Tetsumi Kudo (1970), Kazuo Katase (1988), Yuzo Hamaguchi (1991), Yuji Takeoka (2000), or Ei Arakawa (2018). Referencing the postwar Japanese avant-garde and various sociopolitical movements, Mikami explores the diverse approaches of these artists working outside of Japan and their artistic transformations to overcome cross-cultural conflicts and clichés.

The talk will be held mostly in English, but everyone is warmly welcome to join. This intercultural event encourages the switching of languages to German or Japanese.

木村友紀の個展のクロージングイベントとして、デュッセルドルフと東京を拠点に活動するキュレーターでプロデューサーの三上真理子氏を招き、緩やかな雰囲気のサロントークを行います。開催中の木村の個展「COL SPORCAR SI TROVA」を出発点に、1970年以降にこの美術協会で実施された日本の６人の作家たちの展覧会ー工藤哲巳、片瀬和夫、浜口陽三、竹岡雄二、荒川医、そして木村友紀ーを振り返り、戦後日本の前衛芸術、政治社会動向にも目を向けながら、日本国外で活動する作家たちの異文化間の葛藤とクリシェを克服する多様なアプローチと変容を探ります。

トークは英語で行われますが、文化越境がテーマでもありますので、ドイツ語や日本語の使用も歓迎いたします。どなた様もお気軽にお越しください。
