Lecture by Wendy M.K. Shaw: Making Cubism Turkish: Reinvisioning National Art and its History

Wendy Shaw is professor at Berlin’s Freie Universität since 2014 where she teaches art history of Islamic Cultures. She was teaching in Bern, Istanbul and Columbus/Ohio. In 2011 she published her study on Ottoman Painting by I.B. Taurus. In 2003 Shaw’s publication Possessors and Possessed, a study on the early cultural institutions of the Ottoman Empire and the representation of history and the formation of cultural identity, was published by University of California Press.

The lecture is part of the current exhibition Die Kunst der Türken/ The Art of the Turks/ Türklerin Sanati and can be realized because of the friendly cooperation with the Kunstsammlung NRW.
