A large size greeting card portrays an orange cat and its best friend, the curly tail mouse, holding a golden sign and hoping for you to ‘get well soon’. The card is signed and dated –Ghislaine Leung, kisses– and when one sneaks in, a wonderful surprise: more and more words of love await around the corner and a paper clip holds a folded ten pound bank-note. The cat’s and mouse’s cheeks are blushing pink, their black button eyes are wet with tears of joy. The systematic ambiguities of affect’s economy are endlessly reproduced on stationery items. Institutions and systems of value exist through them. It is the upside down of the administrative: raindrops wet the office’s windows on Monday morning, the copy machine’s light warms the A4 sheets. It is a sweet little lie being whispered in our ears.
