Reprise I & II - Dominik Sittig

As if spoken from the cradle of gender, the question: Are you asleep? – And the answer: Yes, because art has and never had its time. It was and is the obsolete from the very beginning, the child’s rice, the old child that swallows its own stiff tail: no form that could ever be asserted, can be asserted … you just have to look at it … it collapses … the most ridiculous house of cards. Art is memory: the vacuum. The youth.

Then why the artifacts? The pictures? – For repulsion. To be repelled by them, to be repelled by the feelings, the tastes that hang inside you, as if they were the organs themselves, and which become visible on these surfaces: as the mere mush that they are. We all play art. We play it, just as we play to others, and above all to ourselves, and what we believe ourselves to be. But in truth it is always: the splattered face of absence. You step into the exhibition and smell: the gallery of your ancestors: Rien ne va plus!

The publication is published on the occasion of the exhibitions Reprise I. Aversionen Hysterien at the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf (April 21 – June 24, 2012) and Reprise II. Apotheose der Schwester at the Städtische Galerie Waldkraiburg (February 1 – March 24, 2013).
