Artist Talk with Fikret Atay and Manuel Graf

Fikret Atay lives and works in Batman, Turkey. He studied at Dicle University in Diyarbakir. Atay is of Kurdish descent and he focus on with permanent contradictions in his works, for example between the East and West, nationalism and militarism, tradition and modernisation. Atay has already had solo exhibitions in Germany, for example at the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf (2005) and the Kunstverein in Bonn (2008). Besides this, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions, such as ''_Expo 1: New York_'' at MoMA, New York (2013). In his film works he relies on images that gain authenticity through the simplicity of their potrayals. The action is often secretive and above all remains hidden from viewers who are not familiar with the local culture.

Fikret Atay produced a new filmic work Face to Face about the historical figure Sabiha Gökçen for the current exhibition Die Kunst der Türken/ The Art of the Turks/ Türklerin Sanati.
