Rosengarten next to the Stadtmuseum
Not far from the busy banks of the Rhine River and the lively old town lies a hidden haven, the Spee’scher Park. It was originally planned by Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe in the early 19th century and laid out behind the listed Palais der Grafen Spee. The two-story, multi-winged brick complex was rebuilt in the post-war period and has housed parts of the Stadtmuseum since the 1960s. Through a wrought-iron gate, visitors enter a rose garden framed by ancient trees, lined with the Spee’scher Graben (the former moat) and equipped with a number of reliefs and sculptures. The surrounding remains of the bastion Marie Amalie indicate the past boundaries of the city and constitute one of the few places within Düsseldorf where remnants of its former defensive structures can still be found. These traces reveal several layers of cultural, social, and historical activities, reflecting a less visible aspect of the city’s past. It is in this tranquil yet sensually rich environment that Yvette Georges and Gregor Darman will add further textures and generate complex resonances, as well as frictions. In their performances, the two Düsseldorf-based artists draw on various sonic and conceptual references and a variety of instruments, tools, and voices.
Yvette Georges is a project by the artist Dylan Maquet that focuses on sonic experimentation using the saxophone, the cello, field recordings, and various electronic effects such as looping. Influenced by drone and spectral music, it draws inspiration from artists like Éliane Radigue, Sarah Davachi, and Phill Niblock in order to create an introspective space for the listener. Yvette Georges has performed at different venues including Kunstverein Siegen (2025), Salon des Amateurs, Düsseldorf (2024), and Malkastenpark, Düsseldorf (2024, in collaboration with Keta Gavasheli). Dylan Maquet (b. 1995 in France) is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Düsseldorf. He graduated from the École national supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris in 2021 and was a guest student at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2019/20.
Gregor Darman (b. 1997 in Russia) is a sound artist currently enrolled at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He previously studied art history at the Heinrich-Heine-Universität and Sound & Image at the Robert Schumann Hochschule, Düsseldorf. Darman co-founded the record label Candomblé and has been involved in various music projects including Folie 2, LSW (Lifestyle West), and Phaser Boys. He has been contributing to the programming at the Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf since 2017 and has been a resident DJ there since 2021. In his artistic practice, which mainly engages with experimental music as a form of expression, he refers to various older or contemporary influences.
six weeks later will take place at the Rosengarten next to the Stadtmuseum. In case of bad weather, the event will instead be held in the foyer of the Kunstverein.
