Hermetism
Talk by Federico Campagna (philosopher, London)

Saturday, January 15, 2022
5 PM

The Kunstverein and Agnes Scherer are pleased to have won Federico Campagna for an online talk on the occasion of the finissage of The Notebook Simulations. For the event, it was up to the philosopher and writer to choose whatever subject his own curiosity would conjure up within the context of the exhibition. As a result of an exchange in advance, Campagna decided to shed light on the concept of the hermetic – a term which comes up again and again in art-related discussions, while many aren't really familiar with its origins. Drawing from the 'mercurial' element in Agnes Scherer's work, Federico Campagna will discuss the worldview of Hermetic philosophy and its relevance to the present day.

Federico Campagna is an Italian philosopher based in London. His latest books are Prophetic Culture (Bloomsbury, 2021) and Technic and Magic (Bloomsbury, 2018). He teaches philosophy at KABK in the Hague, and works as the rights director at the radical publisher Verso Books.

The event accompanies the current exhibition Agnes Scherer – The Notebook Simulations (21.9.2021 – 16.1.2022) at Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf.
