Monica Majoli’s presentation will focus on her process overall and the significance of the photograph as a catalyst for painting. The lecture will trace the impact of primary source materials, both self-generated and found archival materials over three decades of her work. Additionally, she will discuss the work of Tony Greene and the practice of curation as an elliptical source of inspiration for her series Blueboys.

Monica Majoli (*1963 in Los Angeles, USA) lives and works in Los Angeles. She studied Fine Arts at University of California, Los Angeles. She is a Professor of Art in Painting and Graduate Studies at the University of California, Irvine. Majoli has had solo shows at Hannah Hoffman Gallery, Los Angeles (2023), Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2021), Galerie Buchholz, New York City (2019), Air de Paris, Paris (2014), Gagosian Gallery, New York City (2006), and others. Recent group shows her work has been included in were shown at Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2023), Sadie Coles HQ, London (2023), gta exhibitions, Zürich (2022), Queer Thoughts, New York City (2022), Kristina Kite Gallery, Los Angeles (2021), Édouard Montassut, Paris (2019), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2017), among others. Majoli’s work is part of several public collections across the USA and Europe.
