Internet and digitization function just like a pop song – a promise whose upholding is consistently delayed, a projection surface for utopian euphoria as well as ignorant cultural pessimism. Talking about digitization and the (world wide) web is difficult for us, for a form of technology is not conceivable without its economic-political and social framework. Maybe we are talking about an old problem after all: What is the basis, what is superstructure, how do they relate to one another? Or is a different computing and another web possible? And if yes, how do we get there?
