This first monograph on Ei Arakawa is published subsequently to his institutional solo debut Performance People at Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf (12.5. – 5.8.2018). Beyond a documentation of the exhibition alone, the eponymous publication allows a profound understanding of Arakawa´s complex artistic practice in general: on behalf of illustrations, performance scripts, notes, and sketches it unfolds a kind of archive along the performances as well as the performance people the artist has worked with for nearly twenty years. With textual contributions by Eva Birkenstock, Sarah Chow, John Kelsey, Jutta Koether, Reiko Tomii, and an interview with Ei Arakawa by Erika Landström, Performance People manifests the second part of a three-partite project that concludes with an upcoming solo exhibition by Ei Arakawa at New York’s Artists Space 2021.
