Private Landscapes
Contemporary Photography from Hungary

at Kunstverein's foyer

Puklus_web Opening: Friday, 9 July 2010

6 pm: Panel discussion with Christiane Kuhlmann, curator at Folkwang Museum Essen, and Hungarian curators Alexa Csizmadia and Ágnes Sebestyén. The artists will be present.

7 pm: Exhibition opening

10 pm: Party with DJs Hans Nieswandt (D) and Péter Soltész (HU) at Salon des Amateurs

Within the last few years the art world has come across a new generation of Hungarian photographers and honoured them with numerous exhibitions and awards. To name but a few, there are especially artists born in the late 1970s and early 1980s, such as Sári Ember, Marcell Esterházy, Donát Kékesi, Alexandra Emese Lázár, Ágnes Éva Molnár, Hajnal Németh, Anna Ildikó Pető, Peter Puklus and Bálint Rádóczy. Their works characterised the visual profile of the Festival SCENE HUNGARY IN NRW on posters and program booklets. The young artists work in global contexts: they connect external stimuli with subjective impressions of their home country, where most of them are still living. The distinctiveness of their images lies in their nearness, in the intimate and the personal. At the same time, they provide an insight into the Hungarian living conditions: the everyday life, the feasts, the growth of towns and a longing for nature.

Within the Festival SCENE HUNGARY IN NRW the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf and the Stadthausgalerie in Münster present in cooperation with the NRW Kultursekretariat a selection of photographic works. These will give a glimpse into Hungary's present, but also of the trends of Hungarian contemporary photography. The group exhibition has been developed in cooperation with the artist and was curated by Eszter Tóth.

Please find further information on all events here:
www.scene-ungarn.de

The exhibition will be on show at Stadthausgalerie in Münster from 29 July till 15 August 2010.

images - ideas

In cooperation with -1/MinusEins/Experimentallabor
(Academy of Media Arts Cologne) and Montag Stiftung Bildende Kunst

ideenbilder_web

images - ideas (Ideenbilder) deals with questions raised by a text more than 2000 years old: Plato's Parable of The Cave. The Greek philosopher offers a concise allegory for misapprehension, delusion and the disentanglement of chimeras. Space, light, cognition and truth had been genuinely linked. Today, in times of picture overkill, visual manipulations and virtual worlds, Plato's allegory is still up-to-date.
Since summer 2009 students of -1/MinusEins/Experimentallabors at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne together with Prof. Hans Ulrich Reck and Prof. Mischa Kuball have been critically discussing these topics and developed different artistic concepts, ideas and sketches.
